There is an old adage that bad things (and good things) come in threes, and trilogies are a common literary device. Astrological trilogies happen all the time. They are known as retrograde cycles.
The Sun is the center of the Solar System, but in astrology, we track the movement of the planets from the Earth. Because of this, with the exception of the Sun and the Moon, all of the planets appear to turn around and go backwards from time to time. This backwards movement is known as retrograde. When a planet goes retrograde, she will hit the same places that she had just passed until she turns around and goes direct. At this point, she will go through the same place in the zodiac a third time.
Mars turned direct on August 28, 2018, and so we have begun the third and final chapter of the Mars trilogy that began in May 2018. Mars will go back over the same places in late Cardinal and early Fixed Signs and square Uranus for a third time. In the third chapter of retrograde cycles, the same themes repeat, but they are usually not as difficult. The reason for this is that we have gained experience in the first two passes, so this time, we are ready for it, and we know what we are doing.
In this year’s Mars trilogy, the first pass was tense, but manageable. The second pass occurred during the tumultuous eclipse season, and climaxed by joining the dramatic Lunar Eclipse of July 27, 2018. This third time around, Venus will be coming around and starting her own trilogy over the very same place in the zodiac from a different angle. On a Mundane level, or level of world events, it is very likely we will see issues related to gender and relations between men and women come to the forefront during September and into October. This may be a difficult time in personal relationships between the genders as well.
So, with that in mind, let’s look at September’s transits in greater detail.
September 1, 2018 to September 8, 2018 – A Period of Productivity
We are still under the light of the beautiful Full Moon of August 26, 2018, and on September 1, 2018, four out of seven of the traditional planets will be in Earth signs. While this is not a time to undertake anything new, it is a wonderful time to wrap up old business and clean up loose ends.
September 1
The Moon will trine the newly direct Mars in Earth. This should be a very productive day.
September 3
We will enter the 3rd Quarter Lunar Phase. It is generally not a good idea to begin anything new during this lunar phase, particularly anything that you want to last. This phase is analogous to winter and to the period between midnight and dawn. It is a good time for cleaning and wrapping up old affairs, however. It is also a good time to undertake matters that you want to be temporary and to finish quickly.
September 6-7
Saturn goes direct after having been retrograde since April. On the same day, Mercury will enter her own sign of Virgo and on the next day, she will trine Saturn. This will give a strong impulse for practical and productive activity.
September 8
Venus will square Mars in the very last degree of Cardinal Signs. If you are in a relationship with someone of the opposite sex, this might be a difficult day. If you can avoid conflict today, it would probably be best to do so. Any conflicts that ensue could become long lasting ruptures if you are not careful.
September 9, 2018 to September 21, 2018 – A New Chapter Begins
The New Moon will occur on September 9, and it will be the first uneclipsed New Moon since June. This is when the third chapter of the Mars trilogy will begin in earnest.
September 9
We begin the New Moon with Venus moving into Scorpio, which is ruled by Mars. Being one of Mars’ signs, Scorpio is a hostile place for Venus. On the other hand, Scorpio is a Water Sign, and Venus is one of the triplicity rulers of Water, so she will still have some dignity. This situation can be likened to having a small estate in enemy territory. In world events, this is likely when issues related to gender will begin to come to the forefront.
On a personal level, Scorpio is a Fixed Sign, so people who have planets in early Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or Aquarius, will be challenged yet again.
September 11-15
These several days will likely be rather dramatic. On September 11, Mars will re-enter Aquarius. On the same day, the Sun will sextile Jupiter and trine Pluto.
Our old familiar nemesis, Uranus, is still poking along going backwards in the early degrees of the Fixed Sign, Taurus. Venus will oppose Uranus on September 12. After that, on September 14, Venus will square the nodes, and on September 15, Mercury will trine Pluto.
It is during this time that the issues of related to gender will likely hit the news. These issues may also come up on a personal level for those who have been being bombarded since the summer, those with planets in early Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or Aquarius. Be very careful of any conflicts that may come up, and carefully consider any action that you take right now so you do not regret it later.
September 18-21
On September 18, Mars will come around and square Uranus, then on September 20, the Moon will join Mars briefly and transfer her light to Venus. The next day, Mars will conjunct the South Node.
It is at this time that all of the issues we have been talking about will come to a head.
September 22, 2018 – Libra Ingress
On September 22, the Sun will enter Libra. This is the Autumnal Equinox, when day and night are equal. After this, night will be longer than day. The Libra Ingress Chart will have influence for the entire season and will be in effect until the Winter Solstice. Below is the Libra Ingress Chart:
This is a powerful chart, with some rather nice aspects. There is a lovely trine in Water between the Moon and Venus, and a trine in Air between the Sun/Mercury conjunction and Mars. It looks like there will be some communication and healing of the recent tension during this season. Mars has finally made it past Uranus, and for the moment, Venus has cleared Uranus as well.
There is still some tension, but in a different place this time. The Sun and Mercury are moving into a square with Saturn. This will impact those with planets in early degrees of Cardinal Signs, Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. On the other hand, we will likely experience this as almost a relief. We have been dealing with tension in Fixed Signs lately, so when the tension is in Cardinal Signs instead, it will feel as if something can finally be accomplished!
September 24, 2018 to September 30, 2018 – Moving Forward
Which brings us to the next lunation, the Full Moon of September 24, 2018
In this chart, the Sun is still applying to a trine with Mars and a square with Saturn, but Mercury is moving on. It is only a couple of days after the Libra Ingress, so the themes will be largely the same. The main difference is that the Moon has moved into a configuration known as a T-square with the Sun and Saturn by opposing the Sun and square Saturn. This should give a big boost of energy to move forward.
September 25-27
On September 25, the square between the Sun and Saturn will be exact, and on September 27, the Sun’s trine with Mars will be exact. This means that the issues that have been developing over the past several days will manifest completely.
September 29
We will end the month of September with a lovely Grand Trine in Air between the Sun in Libra, Mars in Aquarius, and the Moon in Gemini. This will be a great day for anything to do with communication, and it will be a lucky day for those with planets in the early degrees of any of these signs.
Conclusion
September will have some difficulties as we enter into the third and final chapter of the Mars trilogy we began in May of this year. Near the end of the month, however, we will begin the Fall with a very nice Libra Ingress chart. This will help us resolve and take action on the difficulties that have been plaguing us in recent months. We will end the month with a beautiful Grand Trine in Air, which will help us communicate and talk through our problems. This Grand Trine will be especially lucky for those with planets in the early degrees of the Air Signs, Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.
