Capricorn Ingress 2021 – A Pleasant Season

There are four times a year in which the Sun reaches a turning point. These are the two Equinoxes, when the length of day and length of night are equal, and the two Solstices, when the Sun is the highest and the lowest in the sky.

Western Astrology primarily uses the tropical zodiac, which is based on these turning points, and this is where the Cardinal Signs, Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn begin. The chart for the entry of the Sun into these signs will give information that pertains to the entire season.

For more information about the Cardinal Signs, see:

Signs of Change, the Cardinal Signs

On December 21 this year, the Sun will enter the sign of Capricorn. This marks the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere.

The chart for the Capricorn Ingress of 2021 looks quite pleasant, but there are some important temptations to avoid.

The Capricorn Ingress chart

Below is the chart for the Capricorn Ingress of 2021.

Void of Course Moon

One of the first things to notice about this chart is that the Moon is at the end of a sign, and she will not perfect an aspect with any other planet until she changes sign. This is a condition known as Void of Course. The axiom for a Void of Course Moon is “nothing will come of it.” For an Ingress Chart, this generally means that the season will be rather uneventful, with little lasting change.

Yet, there are factors that make this Moon more active. The first factor is that she is already within orb of a trine with Mars. According to William Lilly, this means that the Moon is actually not Void of Course. The other is that she is in Cancer, and even a Void of Course Moon can produce results in Cancer, Sagittarius, or Pisces.

In my practice, I tend to take a qualitative rather than a quantitative approach to such matters. This means that I look at all of the circumstances involved rather than mechanically apply any rule or axiom. In this case, the Moon is separating from an opposition to Venus, but is still quite close, and as mentioned before, is moving into a trine with Mars, which will perfect when the Moon changes sign.

While an opposition is considered a difficult aspect, this one is with Venus. Venus is the Lesser Benefic. The Benefics go out of their way to be helpful, so any contact with them tends to be good, even if it comes from a hard aspect such as an opposition. The Moon will also be taking the light of Venus to the next planet, Mars.

This will help with relations between the genders and with relationships in general. It will also give energy towards working on things that you enjoy.

Temperament

The temperament of this chart is balanced between hot and cold and between wet and dry. The weather in most places should be what would be expected for this time of year.

Jupiter

In this chart, Jupiter is at the end of Aquarius, so this placement will mark the season. On the other hand, Jupiter will move into Pisces on December 30, 2021.

Pisces is one of Jupiter’s two signs. This will make Jupiter quite powerful over the coming year. Jupiter is the Greater Benefic, so she wants to give us good gifts regardless of her placement. When she is in one of the signs of her strength, such as Pisces, she has the ability and means to help us to the fullest extent.

Jupiter is Pisces operates a little differently than she does in her other sign, Sagittarius. In Pisces, Jupiter is softer and quieter. She is kind and merciful, and bestows particular favor to those who are kind and merciful as well.

This is a good time to consider good works and charitable causes that you might be interested in. This is also a good time to focus on matters of a spiritual nature.

Jupiter does grant increase when she is powerful, and this will be a time that will be conducive for financial growth as well. Yet, in Pisces, in order to gain, one must also be generous, particularly towards those in need.

Outer Planet temptations

From the perspective of the Seven Traditional Planets, this chart is quite pleasant, with no major difficulties. If one includes the Outer Planets, however, this chart becomes quite a bit more challenging.

I do use the Outer Planets, but in a very specific way. I believe that they can have effect, but they do not have to. They are mostly temptations to be avoided. To the extent that someone avoids the temptations of these planets, they will be immune from their influence on a personal level. Yet, all of us are influenced by our society, our communities, and by those we interact with, so it might not be possible to fully avoid their impact in the Modern World.

For more information on my approach to the Outer Planets, see:

The Traditional Model of the Cosmos, Part IV: What About the Outer Planets?

The are two major temptations from the Outer Planets in this chart.

The first is that Venus is retrograde and moving back into an exact conjunction with Pluto. As the Moon is leaving Venus and headed towards Mars, this could have serious consequences. The temptation of Pluto is towards inversion or intentionally doing things that one knows is wrong and treating them as if they were right.

Venus and Mars are the two planets most involved in relationships. So, the temptations involved will mostly be in the context of relationships. If one falls into such temptations, the movement of the Moon will bring the poisons of Pluto to Mars, and it can destroy relationships rather than enhance them. Venus is retrograde, or moving backward, which means that she will pass over Pluto one more time when she moves forward again before she is free of Pluto’s influence. This will increase the likelihood of lasting consequences for falling into temptation.

The second temptation is that Saturn is moving into a square with Uranus. The temptation that this represents is to break the rules. Unlike Venus conjunct Pluto, which is more likely to operate on a personal level, Saturn square Uranus may create unrest in the world at large. It can also create trouble in groups and organizations.

There is only so much a person can do about external difficulties and unrest, but one can keep themselves from this temptation as much as possible. This is a good time to follow the rules. Do not be tempted to go on your own or to think that you know better than anyone else.

This will keep this transit from impacting you on a personal level.

Summary

The Capricorn Ingress chart for 2021 is a very nice chart. It is a rather quiet chart, without a great deal of activity. The activity that is there is mostly positive, at least from the standpoint of the Traditional Planets.

Any trouble in this chart comes from the Outer Planets, specifically Uranus and Pluto. So, long as you avoid the temptations of these planets, however, you should be immune from their impact, at least on a personal level.
