My mother was my first astrology teacher, and I will never forget one of the lessons she taught me. That lesson was that there were times in which it was important to put down the chart and talk person to person. I think that this may be one of those times.
On an individual and on a collective level, we can enjoy a relatively ordinary life most of the time. We go about our business with normal ups and downs and joys and sorrows. Yet, there are times in which we are tested. This is one of those times.
The year 2020 promised to be a time of great change.
For more information, see:
2020 – An Earth-Shattering Year
At the time that I wrote that article, I could only guess at the form that this change would take. Now we are in the middle of a global crisis in the form of the coronavirus, giving us a glimmer of what lies ahead.
Free Will and our False Selves
I am not going to make a prediction about how long the current situation will last or what is going to happen. We have been told by the medical experts that a lot will depend on us and how we behave, and I have every reason to believe that this is the case.
A crisis is often a turning point, which can be for good or for ill. I think that how we act now will shape not just what happens with this virus, but also what the next 20 years will look like.
Right now, the entire world has a common enemy….and that enemy is NOT the coronavirus. The enemy is Selfishness and our own False Selves.
From what we have been told, CoVid-19 is a virus that spreads very quickly and easily, and it can be transmitted by those who seem healthy. The vast majority of people who get it will only experience a cold, and they will recover. A small minority will need medical attention to get through it, and a much smaller minority will die even with medical attention.
This means that all of us are being asked to make great sacrifices for the common good and for a small minority of people…and we do not know who will be in that small minority.
The good news is that there are a great many people who are doing just that…all over the world.
There are also many people succumbing to their False Selves. Examples of this are:
- Selfishness in the form of ignoring the risk we pose to others if we contract the virus or in the form of panic buying and hoarding items that we all need.
- Pride in thinking that we know more than the experts who have studied pandemics and how to deal with them.
- Spreading false rumors and gossip to fan the flames of panic and fear.
- Complaining about or trying to get around the instructions and recommendations that we are being given.
- Giving in to fear and panic ourselves.
All of us have False Selves, and all of us succumb to these failings from time to time, but right now, we have a wonderful opportunity to rise above them. If we are able to do that, this can be a great opportunity to truly make the world a better place for the next 20 years or longer.
The Aries Ingress Chart
Astrology is a great tool for understanding the big picture, and the Aries Ingress chart for this year can give us some clues for what is going on on a larger scale.
The tropical zodiac that is used in West measures the signs from the four cardinal points, the two Equinoxes and the two Solstices.
For a detailed explanation of this, see:
The signs that begin at each of these cardinal points are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn, and they are known as the Cardinal Signs. When the Sun enters each one of these signs, the chart for her ingress into that sign will have influence over the entire season.
The astrological year begins when the Sun enters into Aries, so the Aries Ingress chart marks the coming year as well.
With all of this in mind, let us look at the Aries Ingress chart for 2020:
A Preponderance of Earth
Over the next twenty years, we will be moving from an era dominated by Earth to one that will be dominated by Air. Yet, one of the more notable features of this chart is that is it extremely Earthy. Four out of the seven traditional planets are in Earth Signs.
Saturn is in the last degree of Capricorn. Often when a planet is in the last degree of a sign, there is an exaggeration of the symbolism of that sign.
What we are seeing right now is a hunkering down of Earth in the form of locking down borders, movement of people, and human contact on a physical level. This is happening in order to guard against one of the major dangers of Air…infectuous diseases.
Whenever there is a movement of people and goods, there is a risk of germs spreading as well. This has been a problem for humanity since the beginning of civilization. We are neither the first nor the last to be facing a major pandemic.
A Solution from Air
In this chart, the Moon is in Aquarius, an Air Sign. Very shortly, Saturn will be moving into this sign as well.
This suggests that Earth-based solutions such as lockdowns and containment will not hold by themselves. Something more will be needed.
Social contact is a basic human need. If there are no outlets for people to get together, they will either break the restrictions or start to suffer tremendous emotional difficulties. Fortunately, for many, there are more opportunities for non-physical contact now than ever before.
We are already in a time in which there is a great deal of innovation in the form of technology. It is very possible to have entire communities that have no physical contact at all. With Virtual Reality, these possibilities are going to increase exponentially.
Shared crises often bring people together. This virus is something that is impacting the entire world. Working together to solve it has the potential to help us all bridge our differences and truly become a global community.
The Power of Love
One way to analyze charts is to look at the disposition pattern of the chart.
For an explanation of this, see:
Who’s In Charge? Disposition and the Almuten Figuris
In this chart, three of the planets are in Capricorn, including Saturn, who rules Capricorn. This makes Saturn the leader of these planets. The Sun is in Aries, which is ruled by Mars, which is one of the planets in Capricorn. The Moon is in Aquarius, which is also ruled by Saturn, and Mercury is in Pisces. Pisces is ruled by Jupiter, which is the other planet in Capricorn. This means that six planets are in Saturn’s chain of command.
Yet, Venus is in Taurus, which is one of the Signs that she rules, and thus, not under Saturn’s jurisdiction. She will be the key to getting through this time.
Venus is the planet that rules Love…in all of its forms. It will be Love that can see us through.
Already many people are doing very loving things, from restaurants giving free food to children who will not be getting their lunches at school, to people buying gift certificates to help keep local businesses running, to people observing precautions to protect others.
There is power in such love, and it is something that will get us through this time. It can also change the world for the better in the years to come.
Also, on a more mundane level, Venus in Taurus is likely to make for a very good growing season….so there is no reason for most of us to worry about a shortage of food…unless we create it ourselves through our silliness.
Recommendations
Below are some recommendations for this time:
- Stay calm and sensible! There is no need to panic.
- Find creative ways to stay in touch with those that you love and to remain connected with other people.
- Follow the instructions of those in charge in your local community.
- Continue to battle the temptations of your False Self. Remember that this is the true enemy.
- Don’t forget the power of love and kindness.
In conclusion, here are some words from The Clew of Love in the Gospel of Our Mother God:
Let [the soul] know that no creature gains good for herself by any harmful act; for every stone returns to she that throws it in the fullness of time. And the shaft that her hand releases shall fly a thousand years until it cleaves her heart.
But she that does a kindly action shall be thrice blessed.
Once in the doing of it; for the hand of Dea shall rest upon her.
Once in the raising of her soul upon the path toward her Lady.
And once in the deed itself; for every rose plucked and sent forth shall come as a gift to her when her heart is weary, and every cup of wine that she gives to another shall quench the thirst of her own lips in the fullness of time.
