I love astrology.
My mother is an astrologer, and she was my first astrology teacher. She taught me my zodiac along with my alphabet, and my fondest childhood memories are of long discussions about astrology, religion, and metaphysics, often at the laundromat while folding clean clothes.
Astrology was the topic of my first term paper in 7th Grade, and for my reference, I used my mother’s astrology textbook, The Compleat Astrologer, by Derek and Julia Parker. From this, I learned to calculate charts by hand, starting with my own, with pencil and paper on our kitchen table. When looking up my own planetary placements, I saw that my mother had marked all of my planetary positions in the book in pencil. Later she told me that she did that when I was still a baby and that she started learning astrology when she was pregnant with me. I still have this book, which is tattered and torn and has lost its cover.
As I think is the case with many, my life has taken a long series of twists and turns. I have been a teacher, a case manager, and a lawyer. I have been a Roman Catholic, a Protestant Christian, a Pastor’s wife, and a Quaker. Yet, through it all, astrology has always been with me. There have been times when I thought I would leave astrology for good and when astrology has seemed incompatible with my religion or my career. Yet, like a dear and understanding friend, astrology has always been there, rejoicing whenever I have returned to her.
Aside from my mother, I have had many wise teachers and mentors, to whom I will be forever grateful. I hold Level II certification from the National Council for Geocosmic Research, and I have studied Traditional/Classical Astrology under P. James Clark.
Recently, I have been forging my own path philosophically and developing my practice along these lines. This has unfolded to what I have named Essentialist Astrology.
As a part of this path, I have been studying the Vedic tradition, and in October of 2022, I received a Vedic Certificate from Kepler College.
Over the last several years, life’s twists and turns have brought me to to the Divine Feminine and to the worship of Dea. My faith has given me a deep spiritual foundation from which to practice astrology. I speak Japanese, albeit not very well, and my Japanese studies have been an important part of my spiritual and professional journey. I am also studying Swedish, the language of my personal heritage, and I am beginning to study Latin, Classical Greek, and Spanish. I have a strong interest in researching and exploring Tradition and metaphysics, particularly from a feminine perspective.
My hobbies are reading, knitting, and crocheting. I have been gardening for the last several years. Gardening has deepened my understanding of the rhythm of seasons, which is intimately connected with the order of the cosmos and the Harmony of the Spheres.
