Transits – March 24 to April 21, 2020: Restriction and Innovation

I have been writing monthly transit articles for quite a while, and I usually speak in generalities. For one thing, I am looking at transits that are impacting everyone all over the world. For another, for spiritual reasons, I try to stay away from the politics in my own country…and in others.

This article will be an exception. At the moment, we are dealing with a global crisis…something that is beyond the politics of individual nations and communities. This, of course, is the coronavirus pandemic.

As I am writing this, many people, including myself, are living under government restrictions due to this pandemic, even if they are currently not sick. Businesses are closed, and life looks much different than it did a few weeks ago.

General Comments

From what I have read, it seems like this virus first began to spread in late December of 2019, and it started to take off in China in January. This means that it is related to the Capricorn Ingress of 2019, and the Eclipses of December 2019 and January 2020.

For more information about the charts of these events, see:

Capricorn Ingress 2019

Solar Eclipse of December 25, 2019

Lunar Eclipse of January 10, 2020

All of these charts show a heavy Capricorn influence. We have moved into a new season, which is governed by the Aries Ingress chart, but that chart has a heavy Capricorn influence as well.

For more information, see:

Aries Ingress 2020 – A Time of Testing

Capricorn can be a very severe sign, and the restrictions and hardships we are seeing can easily be attributed to the heavy planets that have been sojourning there.

Yet, this harsh Capricorn influence will be starting to break up during the coming Lunar Cycle. Saturn has moved out of Capricorn and into Aquarius, and Mars will be following shortly.

This suggests a loosening of the current tight boundaries during this cycle. Does this mean that the pandemic will be under control and that the current restrictions will no longer be necessary? That is the most optimistic reading, but there are many other possibilities.

I think that the most likely reading is that this will be a time of innovation as we find more and more new ways to be together without the need to be in physical contact.

We are moving from an era dominated by Earth to one dominated by Air. I believe that this pandemic is one of the vehicles that is pushing us in that direction.

So, with the larger picture in mind, let us look at the next Lunar Cycle in detail.

March 24 to April 6 –  A Spark of Fire

Given the current situation, the Lunation chart for the New Moon is a bit troubling. The New Moon is in Aries, as it always is this time of year. Saturn has just moved into Aquarius. Mars, Jupiter, and Pluto are all still in Capricorn, and Mercury is still in Pisces.

In ordinary circumstances, this would be a challenging Lunation, but not terrible. We are finally getting some warmth, with three planets in hot signs, and there is one less heavy planet in Capricorn.

Yet, there is a danger that people will begin to get volatile and less willing to abide by the current restrictive regime. Mercury in Pisces will also increase the probability of confusion and misinformation.

On the other hand, the Aries New Moon may bring more courage, and Saturn in Aquarius may help to bring about more innovation. Much will depend on how people decide to behave. An encouraging feature of this chart is that Venus is in Taurus trine the planets still in Capricorn. This may assist people to remain sensibly compliant out of care and concern for others.

New Moon 3-24-20

March 27 & 28

Venus will make a lovely trine with Jupiter on March 27 and with Pluto on March 28. These transits should improve everyone’s mood and soften any hard attitudes. They should also make people more generous and willing to share.

March 30 & 31

Mars will leave Capricorn and enter Aquarius on March 30 and then will join Saturn on March 31. These are rather tricky transits to interpret, especially as the Moon will be going into Cancer at this time as well.

Venus will be joining the troublesome fixed star, Algol, at the same time.

This could be a difficult couple of days. It will be important to stay calm and not panic. It will also be important to continue following the local guidelines where you live, even though many will be feeling a strong sense of restlessness and frustration.

April 3 & 4

Mercury will be joining Neptune on April 3, and Venus will be leaving her sign of Taurus and entering Gemini. On April 4, she will trine Saturn, and Jupiter will join Pluto.

There is a likelihood that false rumors will spread at the same time that people are feeling the need for more social engagement. This is a bad time to give in to temptation and to ignore restrictions and recommendations. There could be direct and immediate consequences for doing so. Satisfy your social needs safely.

April 7 to April 21 – A Burst of Air

The Full Moon Lunation chart of April 7 is very different than the ones we have had for several months now. Jupiter and Pluto are still in Capricorn, but Mars and Saturn have moved into Aquarius. Five out of seven of the Traditional Planets are in hot signs, and four of these are in Air.

Astrology is a language of symbolism, and there are several ways to interpret these symbols. In this chart, the symbolism is clear. There will be a dramatic loosening of the current restrictions. This could manifest in the physical world in many different ways.

The most optimistic reading is that the pandemic will come under control and that the restrictions will no longer be necessary. The most pessimistic reading is that the virus will run rampant. A middle-of-the-road reading is that technological innovations will allow us to go about most of our business without the need to engage in physical contact.

I would imagine that all of these possibilities will become manifest depending on the part of the world that you live in.

Full Moon 4-7-20

April 7

Mercury will sextile Jupiter and Pluto, and Mars will square Uranus. The Mercury transits are relatively minor, but Mars square Uranus could pose problems.

More than likely, this will play out on the world stage, but it could also make individuals feel rebellious and defiant. It is important to remember to remain sensible and not yield to feelings of restlessness and irritability.

April 10 & 11

Mercury will go into Aries on April 10. This will improve the quality of information that we receive, but it could also increase the potential for volatility. On April 11, Mercury will sextile Saturn. This will be a stabilizing influence.

If you learn something on April 10, try not to act on it until April 11. You will have more facts and be in a better frame of mind.

April 14 & 15

The Sun will square Pluto on April 14 and Jupiter on April 15. The most likely impact these transits will have will be in the realm of world economics, but on a personal level, it is best to try to stay calm and not lose your temper.

April 18

Mercury will sextile Venus and then sextile Mars. These are relatively mild transits that will facilitate communication.

April 19

The Sun will move into Taurus. This will tend to bring an element of calm to the air.

April 21

The Sun will square Saturn. A lot will have happened by this point. This transit may bring about a feeling of sadness or even depression to many people. The important thing to remember is that this is a natural reaction to a prolonged stressful period. Be gentle with yourself.
